Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Women’s Gynecologic Health

Course Overview:

The Point of Care Ultrasound in Women’s Gynecologic Health course offers an introduction to ultrasound as it applies to gynecologic care. Tailored for women’s health providers, this course covers essential topics including the scope of practice for Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), cross-sectional anatomy, basic ultrasound physics, and bioeffects. Participants will also gain practical knowledge in performing gynecologic ultrasound exams and understanding the documentation and liability aspects associated with POCUS in a clinical setting.

Course Content:

The curriculum is designed to equip women’s health providers with the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently perform gynecologic ultrasound. It begins by defining the scope of practice for POCUS in gynecologic care and progresses through foundational lessons in ultrasound physics and anatomy.

Her role as a founding member of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and her contributions to the inaugural certification examinations have cemented her status as a respected educator in the field.

Carolyn's journey into midwifery infused her ultrasound expertise with a profound understanding of women's health, further enriching her teaching. Her tenure as Clinical Director of Fetal Assessment at Johns Hopkins University Hospital and her long-standing involvement with the ACNM Ultrasound Education Subcommittee have enabled her to share invaluable insights into full-scope scanning and biophysical profiling.
